This welcoming mural was painted by Maxine Albro for her friend Donna Hofsas, the founder of the hotel. You will also recognize her distinctive paintings in the lobby and her decorative touches throughout the hotel to enhance the charming Bavarian theme. Maxine took a trip to Mexico after her formal art training and was influenced by Diego Rivera’s stylized figures. The hotel has been family owned by the Theis family for four generations and seven decades. The town is located on the Pacific coast about 330 miles north of Los Angeles and 120 miles south of San Francisco. We loved the big room, the originality as well as the friendly owner and staff there.

I was looking forward to photographing the spectacular scenery. We stayed at the Hofsas House Hotel Family-Friendly Lodging. My family stayed in Pacific Grove several years ago, and we have fond memories of the area. It’s a beautiful part of the world and a nice change from our Southern California beaches and weather. We were super impressed with this beach, the sand was so soft and sparkling white. You can either opt to walk along the Scenic Road trail that runs parallel to the ocean or you can set up a picnic on the sand, we did both!

Ms. Theis arranged a special treat for us on our second evening. This restaurant is located in The Barnyard – a shopping center just ten minutes from the hotel. So, as much as we enjoyed our stay at Hofsas House and in Carmel-by-the-Sea, we will probably choose another area to stay the next time we travel with our kids.

She put away her computer, pulled up the covers and went fast to sleep. The Hofsas House is also a short drive to the best sandy beach, perfect for a picnic. Carmel Beach is a short 10 minute drive or 20 minute walk from the hotel. Popular Carmel attractions such as Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and the Carmel Mission are 15 minutes away.
If you’re looking to have a fun shopping experience, Carmel is the place for you. The town is home to many unique boutique shops that sell everything from clothes and jewelry to home goods and art. Carmel Beach is one of the most iconic Pacific Ocean beaches on the California coast. The white sand, cypress trees, and scenic paths make it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Carmel is also notable for its scenic views; the town is surrounded by cypress trees, and the nearby Carmel Beach offers opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and picnicking.

You will find many wine tasting rooms sprinkled throughout town and most will ship wine to you back home. A lovely bottle of wine and cheese from the local cheese shop was waiting to welcome us when we arrived. Now that my husband and I are empty-nesters, we love to get away whenever we can. We had the opportunity to visit one of our favorite California cities, Carmel-by-the-Sea in Monterey County, California and stay at the warm and welcoming Hofsas House. While the weather was not the best during our visit, it rained quite a bit, but it turned out to be a cozy, very relaxing time to reconnect and unwind for a few days. Highlights of our drive were the Ghost Trees at Pescadero Point – they are sun-bleached, needless cypress trees that are quite spooky.

With the free off-street parking, it's the perfect place to park the car and walk to explore the area. While the beach is about a 20-minute walk away, it's still easily accessible, especially if guests opt for taking the car. Just 5-minutes’ walk from restaurants and shops in Carmel city center, Hofsas House Hotel features a heated outdoor pool and a continental breakfast with fresh pastries. Free WiFi is included in all rooms.A TV with cable channels offers in-room entertainmen.
We recently had the opportunity to explore Carmel By The Sea, CA, and stay at the enchanting Hofsas House hotel. We had such a fantastic time we couldn’t wait to tell everyone all about it. The restaurant has been a Carmel favorite since 1980 and is known for excellent food and wine, and attentive service. Holman Ranch was our favorite wine from our last visit and now has a tasting room in town.

With both the shoreline and the inland surroundings, they strike a balance between untouched nature and a well loved and manicured town. Featuring an outdoor heated pool and a sauna, Hofsas House Hotel is located in Carmel By the Sea and offers charming accommodation. Those staying at the property can also make use of free wireless internet. It was a joy to meet with her and learn about the lovely town and her family’s hotel. If you visit, she’ll likely be around spreading her warmth to new hotel guests. The village of Carmel is only 1 square mile so you can walk everywhere.
We made good use of the kitchen in our room by prepping her meals, washing her bottles, we kept snacks for ourselves and chiledl our wine and cheese. Wake up and rise to a sweet and fresh continental breakfast in the Hofsas House Lobby. We enjoyed muffins, fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, milk, orange juice and hot beverages such as coffee and tea.
I was pleasantly surprised to find plentiful and free parking right near the beach. Head west on Ocean Avenue and you will end up at the beach. The hotel is ideal for family reunions and small conferences. The conference room is located poolside and includes a full kitchen. Guests are welcome to bring their own chef or work with the Hofsas House chef. Breakfast in our room avoids having to drive and wait in a restaurant.
